JEBS-(Johnston-Estroff-Bock-Samples) are living like locals on our 3rd day in Hong Kong. We went to a local restaurant that we would call a diner for breakfast on our way to the MTR (subway). Tapped out Octopus card and took the Island train to Hong Kong train to Tung Chung. It took almost 1 hour to reach the meet point for our tour.
Out guide took us to the public bus which was out means of transportation to Lantue Island. Our stop at Tia O a fishing village was eye opening. The village was made up "temporary"houses like you think about in Asia. The fishermen were not allowed to build on the land because they were illegals. For the moment the government is allowing them to stay there. We walked through the village made up of shops, stalls and restaurants sampling fish balls. We boarded a small open boat to see the pink dolphins (couldn't get a picture) and through the "houses". Rushed back to the bus to get to the "Big Buddah".
"Big Buddah" a tremendous bronze statue built in 1992 took 12 years to complete is a tourist friendly village. The Buddah is up 265 steps so we enjoyed it from the bottom. I enjoyed small lunch of noodles and red bean buns. A modern shopping complex lined the street to the cable car. We took the 20 minute ride down the mountain on the cable cable car. Walked through the mall for s bite to eat and headed for the MTR for the 1 hour ride like locals.
Cashed in our Octopus cards and headed to the hotel to get ready for our Looooonnnnggggg trip home.
