Day 17
Published Wednesday, January 31st 2024 - Updated Saturday, February 3rd 2024Thanks to Robyn A Dudley for connecting me with Kiki!!! Kiki spent 1 year with Robyn's family as an exchange student. I have been seeking Kiki's advise about a hotel and what we should plan to do in Hong Kong. I never expected the unbelievable hospitality that she extended to me and my friends.
Kiki and her young cousin Taylor met us this morning at our hotel. We walked to Lang's restaurant just a few blocks from our hotel for dim sum. Since none of us could read the menu Kiki ordered for all of us. The food kept coming, dish after steamer basket. One was more delicious than the next.
We rolled out of the restaurant and just outside was a neighborhood market that went on for several blocks. I learned about the Chinese New Year from one of the vendors and found more treasures to bring home.
The MTR - subway is an easy way to get around Hong Kong. We hopped on the train and went to The Hong Kong Palace Museum.
The museum provides the history of China with ancient artifacts, and docments. It is wekk worth visiting if you are every in HK.
We got an Uber to take us to Kowloon at Lei Yue Mun Market. The market has stall after stall of tanks filled with fresh seafood. The lobsters and crabs were sooo big!!! At the end of the matket there was the rocky bank of the Horbour. Taylor went down to play on the rocks. We were sure that he would be eating dinner wet. to our surprise Ricky, Kiki's husband joined us. We returned to the market and they selected a stall to buy the freshest seafood in the world. Bag after bad was filled with live seafood. They asked what restaurant we were going to and the seafood was sent to Hoi King Seafood Restaurant. Minutes after sitting down the food began to be served. It just kept on coming. One dish was more delicious than the last. We all decided that we didn't like the Chinese century eggs.
We took a ferry back to Hong Kong. Kiki invited us to see her home. It is unbelievable that they have ony 600 squart feet. There are two bedrooms, 2 baths, a kitchen, dining room and living room. The views from their balcony are breathtaking.
Kiki and Ricky walked us back to the MTR station and I neautiful day came to an end.
We will forever be gratefull for the experience that we had in Hong Kong.
