Day 11 Nha Trang Vietnam
Nah Trang is the hidden treasure of VIetnam. Our ship anchored in a bay surrounded by mountains, cable cars, modern high rise buildings, a ferris wheel, and colorful houses. The tender landed and we were greeting by our local guide, David. Although he spoke with an accent his English was perfect.
Our first stop was a public area with beaches, playgrounds, sculpted trees, swimming pools and a beautiful sculpture of the natioal flower, Lotus. The area was pristine.
Next was Hon Chong where we were treated to a delightful concert of native musical instruments. Behind the building were more rocks named Husband and Wife. They were not as great as Grandmother and Grandfather.
Ponagar Temple was the next stop. To reach the Hindu Temple on top required climbing 250 steps. The artchitecture and fine details of the building were amazing.
The Cathedral, a Catholic Church is one of the few churches since 70% of the population in Buddist.
Long Son Pagoda is a monostery that houses monk, and orphans.
We were greeting by several young ladies anxious for us to buy their fans and pictures. One shared her story about being an orphan and living with the monks. She sells items during the day and attending classes in the evening. Not sure if her story was accurate but she told us she was studying to be a teacher so we bought something.
Lunch was at a stunning restaurant down several back streets, Tang Ngon.We were served plates full of delicious authentic Vietnamese dishes to share. Food drop is on another post.
Last was shopping in a much less crowded local market. We were able to find some goodies to bring home.
Back to the tender then the ship for our afternoon cocktail. A ahort rest watching the tenders loading back to the ship.
Off to another show and delicious dinner in the dining room.
